Windsor Chair Making Basics, with Jeff Wyatt

FULL COURSE CONTENT TO BE RELEASED ON 9/30/25

Join chairmaker Jeff Wyatt for a step-by-step introduction to the timeless craft of Windsor chair making. In this course, Jeff shares both traditional and modern techniques while building a beautiful fan-back Windsor chair. Beginning with riving green wood and bending parts with steam, you’ll see every stage of the build—shaping spindles, carving the seat, turning legs and stretchers, and assembling each component into a strong, elegant chair.

This course is designed for woodworkers eager to expand their skill set into chairmaking.

You will learn:

  • How to rive your stock from green wood
  • Steam-bend the comb on a bending form
  • Drying chair parts in a kiln
  • Carving and sculpting a seat pan
  • Cut angled joinery in both the seat pan and legs
  • Cut durable wedged mortise and tenons
  • Apply an attractive multi-layer milk paint finish
  • Gain the foundational skills needed to take on more advanced chairmaking projects.
